Photoshop would magically create a contact sheet for you. There are actually two download pages, one for windows and one for mac.

I have zero doubts that Steve would have signed off on the existing iMacs. That happened on Steve's watch. Apple has long had a thing for putting form over function. Steve Jobs screwed up a factory because he insisted that precision machines be repainted, which ruined them. The functionality, when it's working, is ideal.

I run an extension cable behind my desk and under it so my headphones plug in at the front. This keeps my desktop free of cabling. It works fine. I have a second USB connection for my Plantronics earpiece so I can use the Mac as a phone, also with no wires draping across my work surface. Nobody else seemed to make an equivalent amp at the time, but Amazon now comes up with some. While I admit that I've had the stuck headphone switch on my 17" MBP, and also admit I've always been able to fix it by plugging and unplugging headphones, I'd much rather Apple allow a software override as well as simply design a more reliable mechanism for the switch.

I use the switch daily, and would really miss it if when I plugged headphones in and out which I probably do four or five times a day I had to manually switch the sound output. I feel your pain.

No sound out of MacBook speakers & red LED in Headphone jack

Plus it has lots of other uses. It would be nice if connecting headphones was as painless as turning my Bluetooth Trackpad on and off. Works perfectly every time. Maybe I should invest in some Bluetooth headphones Hi, I have long been concerned about the headphone problem, just on general wear-and-tear principles. I've never had it fail in that particular way but was concerned. Anyway I needed to do something as I don't want to bother my wife when she's in the room and doesn't want to listen to what I'm playing, but do like to use the loudspeakers when possible, which includes when it's a program she is interested in.

So recently I bought some bluetooth earbuds I'm mostly listening to talk so fidelity isn't much of an issue , and this is for me an excellent solution. There should be a software override in the Sound control panel. Hmmm, doesn't Windows have something like this? Even if they had an analog line in which some macs still do I think?

My problem is the reverse. I can't get the Mac to recognize when I plug headphones or a set of computer speakers into the headphone port. Would this be because they're connected to a PCI graphics card which doesn't handle sound? I do have a Dell soundbar on one of the displays and get the sound to that via USB cable, but that occasionally seems to crash - pressing volume up or down gives the same "forbidden" graphic your article showed, and I have to turn that display off and back on again to get the sound to come back.

Hmm, yeah, could be the graphics card. I'm not quite sure how Apple wires things up on the inside to send sound through the video card. For many years I used a PowerWave USB audio device from Griffin Technology to bring the headphone port to my desktop from behind one or another Mac tower on the floor under my desk. When it developed a subtle hum, I looked to replace it, but the PowerWave is no longer available. It's a modest DAC, but works just fine with my Bose headphones.

This strategy can bypasses the headphone port entirely—though I actually have a set of desktop speakers plugged into the port on my "27 iMac. This won't eliminate cable clutter, but, it seems to me, that's a small price to pay for the convenience the DAC provides. Of course, whether this is an acceptable solution depends on your priorities. On another note, I agree Ive has lost his magic touch. He's applied his minimalist ethic to the OS X interface, where it is far less useful than it is with hardware design. Though, frankly, I think he's gone overboard with hardware as well.

Strange red light from my MacBook Pro – opacorylav.ml

That did the job, and I have internal sound again. And the digital red light, is now off. Important Update : If this answer helped you, please do not add a 'thank you' as another answer This is not a forum -- please read the faq. Closing the lid and reopening it resolves this for me whenever it occurs, this isn't optimal, but it's quick and easy.

When this happened to my macbook 13" unibody aluminum model it was very frustrating as I would plug in headphones and they'd seem broken. The same thing works if your tap-to-click feature stops working, or in that case you can use the system prefs to disable and reenable it. Thank you for your interest in this question. It updated to the most recent version of Yosemite, though this to me was not the cause of this problem. How can I fix this problem without having to shove a toothpick in the plug socket? Another thngyou may want to check: If you upgraded to Yosemite, and Garage Band was previously active, but not installed under Yosemite, this can cause problems as well. Just had my hard drive replaced by apple. Sound works from internal speakers. Mainly youtube and itunes but also soundcloud and probably other websites. On youtube sometimes i get one second of audio then nothing.

Sometimes nothing at all and sometimes it plays fine. What the hey is that all about lol. I just have ordinary computer speakers hooked up to it by the usual speaker jack. Nay, this problem is not related to the selection of an internal or external output device. Then it defaults back to internal speakers again. Hi lorvens, can you fix that? I have a same problem, I read is probably is a problem with a hardware. This is after updating to Yosemite Anyone know how to fix this?

Nothing is ever so simple, my friend. Backup your Mac, update the system software, then Reboot your Mac. After the update to Yosemite Problem solved. First I called Apple, they tried to reset the iMac. So they told me to bring it in. Next I opened Launchpad and saw an icoon with the Yosemite update.

So I installed the update again. And guess what? Sound works again. Getting tired of this. What exactly is the difference between audio and sound as per the title of the article? Audio meaning any audio channel is not outputting, sound meaning the actual sound noise being output. What should I do if there are no output OR input devices to select from.

Same here. No onboard input or output devices are shown. Only way I can get audio in or out is via a usb audio dongle. One is running It is so frustrating sometimes. And having to actually press the power button, and wait for the system to boot up when it is powered down. The girl in the Apple store told me it could do that, so I bought it. For those of us with audio interfaces, we can set the in AudioMidi or with the delivered software.

I have iTunes in my interface, opera but not safari. Please investigate this issue more fully. Please Contact metro specific details. Anybody know anything about this? First and most important, you must have a truly compatible Mini DisplayPort to HDMI output adapter that allows audio output not all do support sound, amazingly enough , often the super cheap ones on Amazon do not support sound so you want to spend a little more for ones that sound is specifically mentioned, MonoPrice, etc, but there are many on Amazon that do, check the comments. Then you must have a decent HDMI cable which most are acceptable.

Then it is a matter of selecting the proper output channel for sound. I have also noticed that when I plug in a headphone, then close the lid of my MacBook Pro so it goes into sleep mode, remove the headphone and open the lid again to awake my MacBook Pro, there sound is no sound. I must re-select the internal speakers from the sound configuration to make it work again. I hope Apple will pay more attention to stability and reliability over new gadgets and unwanted new software features.

I have the opposite problem. My internal speakers work perfectly, but the input microphone does not work. I have a Dragon microphone input through a UBS slot, and that works with dragon. But neither the internal microphone, nor the dragon microphone, nor an external microphone give an input. Only the dragon microphone shows sound level varying. Another possibility is to hold the option key and click on the speaker icon in the top right corner: it will show a list of all input and output devices, with a checkmark indicating the current default.

Suggest others play with either this or your suggestion to fix the problem. My ipadair with ios8 goes mute sometimes. It seems to have something to do with listening to audio books. Not sure if this is directly related, but this happens often when I use Voila, the screen capture app, specifically when capturing computer sound output along with the video.

I keep getting a message when I do this that I have no output controls? Unable to get the audio output back! Name required. Mail will not be published required. All Rights Reserved.
