The easiest way is to try only one DIMM memory module , first in the lower slot, then in the upper slot. If the one DIMM works in both slots, the slots are okay.
Now try the other DIMM. If the second DIMM also works in both slots, I frankly have no other idea than to try a different version of OS X to rule out the possibility of a software problem. Removing the cover from the case: come on, people!
Use force, but use it gently! There is no way to break things if you turn it into the direction of the second dot to the left, counterclockwise. If you have to use force, don't push down towards the case, but use this force towards the intended cover rotation — you obviously have to push down also for the grip, but other than that: turn, baby, turn! The 2 RAMs, or memory modules, are located on top of one another in the bottom-right corner below the cover. Open the retainer clips holding the RAM in place. Gently pull the RAM out of the slot. Install the new RAM into the Mac mini. Place one of your RAMs into the bottom slot first, attaching the side with the notch into the Mac mini.
The notch resembles a tiny slit and will be present on one of the long sides of the RAM. You can then repeat this process for the insertion of the second RAM. Place the bottom cover back onto your Mac mini.
Alignment dots will be present on the cover and on the computer itself to help you correctly position the back cover into place. Lock the back cover into place by rotating it clockwise after matching up the alignment dots on the back cover and computer. You can then reconnect all the cables you removed earlier from your Mac mini and power the computer on.
Check to see if the Mac mini recognizes the new RAM. Received only a single 8 GB. Christian Moore. While it is possible to mix the RAM that you have, it is not recommended at all. In fact, you may actually end up with a slower computer as a result. Adding the extra 2 GB will force the computer to use slots asymmetrically, and it will end up transferring enough data around that it will 'clog' the data bus, slowing the computer down. Do use the 8 GB stick, though; you will find that it is a major improvement.
